What is the Forres Conservation & Heritage Scheme?
This is a Partnership project where we will be looking at the Forres Conservation Area, exploring ways and ideas to develop, promote and protect the historic character.
Partners include representatives from Forres Heritage Trust, Forres Area Forum, Forres in Bloom, FACT, Leanchoil Trust, Forres Community Council, Findhorn Bay Arts, Friends of the Falconer Museum, HIE, Visit Moray Speyside, heritage and business, with Moray Council elected members supported by Moray Council Economic Growth & Regeneration Team
The group will meet regularly to steer the project and provide community feedback.
What’s the first stage of the Forres Conservation & Heritage Scheme?
During the development phase, which will run until September 2024, there will be events, community engagement and workshops to help design the proposal for a 5 year scheme.
Exploring the concept of a heritage quarter, interpretation ideas and activities, traditional skills audit and activities, heritage engagement and activities, greening of the conservation area along with capital works of buildings and enhancing public areas.
What area will the Forres Conservation & Heritage Scheme focus on?
The Forres Conservation Area covers from Cluny Hill and Grant Park, down the High Street, to Mosset Park.
What’s happened so far for the Forres Conservation & Heritage Scheme?
Currently we have employed a dedicated Project Development Officer who will be overseeing the project development.
Helen Avenell in association with LDN and M:ADE has been appointed to carry out a traditional skills audit and training plan, community heritage engagement and activity plan, evaluation strategy and to update the Forres Conservation Area documents prepared by Andrew Wright and associates in 2013.
We have brought partners together, who will meet on a regular basis to discuss and steer the development of the project.
We are all very excited to be working together in partnership and with the people of Forres to make Forres an even better place to stay, work and visit!
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for upcoming events and activities!
